Types of Bodywork
Below is a list of bodywork modalities I offer. If you find yourself strongly drawn to one or more of them, certainly pay attention to that, but otherwise there is no need to choose one ahead of time. I work intuitively, so sessions may differ widely from person to person, and from week to week. And I work with you, so you are ultimately in charge of the direction we go.
Transformational Bodywork
Attends to the healing and balancing of emotions, behaviors, and relationships, by working with the physical body. May incorporate any or all of the modalities below, and usually involves dialogue between therapist and client, and between mind and body. Mindfulness of the many ways emotions, thoughts, and behaviors manifest in the body is an integral part of this work.
Transformational Bodywork Therapy Groups
Takes Transformational Bodywork to the next level, by exploring what happens in the body when sitting in a room full of people! These groups are for people who are serious about making deep and lasting changes in their lives.
Relaxation massage
Involves stroking and kneading muscle tissue, with a light oil. Relaxes both body and mind, reduces tension and soreness, improves circulation, assists the immune system by increasing lymphatic flow, greatly lowers overall stress. Often brings people into states of deep meditative awareness.
Acupressure
Based on Oriental medicine, uses meridian pressure points to energetically balance the many systems of the body. Sometimes relaxing, sometimes invigorating, it relies on the body's innate wisdom and ability to rebalance itself. Often effective with chronic conditions.
Myofascial Release (MFR)
Deep, sustained pressure, and unwinding movements. Fascia is the body's connective tissue, the stuff that holds us all together. And while it holds our form, it also holds patterns of chronic tension. By releasing restrictions in the fascia, MFR is often able to make lasting structural changes, and to facilitate greater emotional balance.
CranioSacral Therapy (CST)
Somewhat similar to MFR, only more subtle, and more focused on the body's core. CST uses a very light touch, and does not require undressing. It works largely with the bones and connective tissue of the head and spine, and with core fascial membranes such as the respiratory diaphragm. Because it works on such a core level, the physical changes that it brings about can have a profound impact on the emotional patterning underneath.
Energy Work (Therapeutic Touch and Polarity Therapy)
Everything we call "matter" is made up of subatomic "particles," which are really nothing more than energy. The human body-mind is an extremely complex network of energy and information, and our health and well-being depend on the coherence of this information. Energy work uses a very light touch, or no touch, or self-awareness, to help the body-mind remember and restore its natural coherent flow of energy.
